Whenever I make wontons, I prepare a large batch and freeze them to enjoy at a later time. Let me share how to boil frozen wontons for a delicious summer treat.
Make your own pork and mushroom wontons. Recipe here.
You can also buy premade frozen wontons to easily create a delicious meal. Here are a few examples:
BOILED WONTONS
Ingredients
8 to 10 frozen wontons. Do not thaw them before cooking.
Water
Wonton dipping sauce/dressing. To find your favorite wonton sauce, refer to my previous blog, 9 Chinese Dressings to Elevate Your Summer Dishes
If you enjoy eating soup through all seasons like me, try this soy sauce broth with your wontons.
1 Tbsp light soy sauce
1 dash of white pepper powder
½ tsp sesame oil
¼ tsp of salt
1 ½ cup of wonton boiling water or stock.
1 tsp finely chopped scallions for garnish
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Bring 6 cups of water to a boil. Once boiling, add the wontons one by one, and gently stir the water immediately.
2. If some of the wontons are stuck together, gently separate them without breaking the wrappers. If not, don't worry; add the whole block to the water and stir. After 30 seconds, they should separate naturally.
3. Once the water is boiling again, turn the heat to medium. Simmer the wontons for 5 minutes (making sure the water is not rolling to boil but moving and creating tiny bubbles). Turn the heat off when all the wontons are floating, and the wrappers turn translucent. Fish the wontons out with a handled mesh strainer or a perforated spoon.
4. Enjoy with sauce or broth.
